Lindsey Vonn’s Comeback Win Brings Her on Top

Lindsey Vonn is the USA TODAY U.S. Olympic Athlete of the Week, after a huge comeback on her part over the weekend. After winning every World Cup downhill this season, Lindsey Vonn hit a hole in the snow in St. Moritz, Switzerland over the weekend, still managing to finish fifth. She came back and won the super-G the next day.It is a remarkable feat that she won this award at this time. The Winter X Games 14, which took place in Aspen this past weekend, and the Millrose Games, which brought out many big U.S. wins during the week. Vonn is the final winner of this award until March because the award isn’t given during the Olympic Games.

The 2010 Winter Olympics will take place in Vancouver, Canada from February 12th to the 28th. Vonn, who has never won an Olympic medal, has been a favorite in the past few weeks leading up to the Olympic Games. She will be participating in three races: the downhill, the super-G, and the super-combined, which play to Vonn’s strength’s. During this winter’s FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season, Vonn has dominated the speed events, winning the first five downhills and two of the first four super-G races. She also won a super-combined.

The expectations on Lindsey, nonetheless, are immense. According to Sports Illustrated in which she appears on this month’s cover (below), she is considered to be “America’s Best Woman Skier Ever.”

We wish Lindsey Vonn the best of luck in winning her first of many Olympic medals during this year’s Winter Olympics. If she wins, we recommend celebrating her achievements with something more than a medal…a stunning yellow natural sapphire and diamond ring from The Natural Sapphire Company.
